Everything Science Knows About Reading on Screens by Annie Sneed & Reading in a Whole New Way by Kevin Kelly

Article 1:

After reading the article and understanding what the author had to say, I believe that science is telling truth about what it knows as far as reading information on screens. Also, I have to admit I am a victim of the new ways of reading information on screens and it has become a norm for many. When looking at words on screen we tend to lose our focus and sometimes have to go back and read what we just saw because the words are influenced by pictures or pop-ups from other websites. Which causes the attention span to drop and the ability to comprehend information challenging due to ongoing distractions. However, to overcome this I believe one must seek information from a variety of sources. Such as newspapers, books, articles, or from someone who may be educated with the information we are trying to see. Another thing that I notice when reading information on the screen is that the majority of the information could be false, biased heavy, and makes room for many fallacies. This leads to information that is not true and it causes us to make quick assumptions without using our system thinking. which is our conscious thinking

Article 2:

After reading article two I get a clear understanding of how reading and understanding have evolved over the years. I appreciate how Kevin Kelly breaks everything down and talks about the history of reading and writing and how reading and writing were not common in the past. Therefore only a few people knew how to achieve both. Also, I feel like this article covers everything from are previous class about how we don't value information as much as we use to, and due to the emergence of technology, we have moved to skim reading or looking for key points in reading without comprehending what the speaker has to say as a whole. However, technology has made reading and writing available to all people but their way of perceiving and understanding the information is not as strong as the people in the past. In today's world too much information is given at once. This makes it very hard to focus and appreciate what the speaker has to say.
